After a 1-hour walk along a very nice trail that goes from the back of Tambo Blanquillo Lodge and enters the forest in its complete dimension, you arrive to the Mammal Clay Lick.
A wooden solid man-build structure that sits in front of the lick enables you to see various mammals like the Tapir, Huangana, Deer and Jaguar. This ideal observation platform includes tents for those wishing to go late in the afternoon and make a nap until the animals arrive to eat. This is a very special place to view these animals during their nocturnal activities (The observation of mammals eating clay is usually done at night time). It’s a unique experience as they use the clay to act as a kind of Alka-Seltzer to lower the PH of all the food they usually eat in the forest. They are just like us, but a little bit more natural.
